Match the letters after the name
The letters MD stand for medical doctor. The letters DO stand for doctor of osteopathic medicine. Use these letters to choose the board that keeps the doctor's license record.
A physician assistant, or PA, gives medical care under a doctor's supervision. Nevada's medical board licenses a PA supervised by an MD; its osteopathic board licenses a PA supervised by a DO.
Ask the PA which board issued their license and for their own license number. If you need help choosing the board, ask for the supervising doctor's name and whether that doctor is an MD or DO. Search for the PA's own record.
A Nevada PA can be licensed by both doctor boards.
Nurses and nurse practitioners have their license records with the Nevada nursing board.
Ask for the full name as it appears on the license, the profession and the license number.
Open the official record
Use the board for the person's type of license. Check the name, whether the license is current and any public record of action the board has taken against the person.
Read a clear record within its limits
State board records show whether a license is current and any public record of action against the person for breaking the board's rules.
Even when a public record is clear, it does not show the quality of the person's care.
If a search still has no match, ask the board for help resolving the name or license type. Keep that check separate from questions about the proposed medicine.
